You win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing.
HOW MUCH DO YOU WIN?
You receive prize, if you match 3, 4, 5 or 6 numbers. The prize amount for 3 out of 6 is fixed. The 6 out of 6 jackpot prize is based on how many weeks have gone by without a winner. When there is a winner, he gets the jackpot, however, the next draw's jackpot is $4 million. The 6 out of 6 jackpot must be split equally between all winning ticket holders. There is no state tax on Calif Lotto winnings. If you choose "Cash Value," federal tax will be withheld from your winnings at the rate of 25% for US citizens and 30% for all others. If you choose the "Annual Payment" option you will be responsible for paying federal tax on an annual basis and the rate will vary year to year.
MEASURES TAKEN TO ENSURE RANDOMNESS
The state has taken a number of steps to ensure that the numbers drawn are completely random:
- Two draw machines are used - one is randomly selected each draw
- Four complete sets of balls are used - one set is randomly selected each draw
- Monthly, all balls are weighed to an accuracy of .001 grams and measured to ensure ball consistency.
- Regular test draws are performed and analyzed by an independent person.
- Actual draw data is also analyzed by the independent person to make sure no numbers are coming up more often then they should.
- Six pre-test draws are made and if any one number is drawn more than a certain number of times, additional testing is made. If the following testing causes problems, the machine and ball set are not used for the draw.
- All activities are taped on video so they can be examined by an independent person.
- All draw equipment is stored in a locked room monitored by motion detectors, door alarms and video survellance. Two keys are necessary to enter the the room.
