During the Mega Millions drawing held on January 13, 2009, Janet Alnwick of Merrick, Nassau County, matched all six winning numbers of 22, 25, 33, 36, 48 plus the Mega Ball of 40 and became a single winner of $22,000,000 jackpot.
Retired saleswoman she became a full-time caretaker to earn for living. Ms Alnwick does not consider herself to be a regular lottery player spending around $2 monthly for lottery tickets.
She opted for the lump sum and is now due to receive an immediate payment of $15,182,885, before taxes. Her net cheque will total at $10,347,136.
Ms Alnwick intends to spend her winning for “a few more nice things” for herself and more frequent vacations.
